A little life update – an inspiring day in Cologne, as an artist & writer

I feel as an artist we need inspiration. I haven’t been traveling the last couple of weeks (“only” to Frankfurt – to the book fair – and to the German island Norderney for a family birthday trip for 3 days) and I haven’t been much out either. Yes, sometimes to Düsseldorf (which is closer to my home town) but I haven’t been to Cologne in WEEKS. And today was the day! I really love it.

Cafés fuel my creativity

Right now, I’m sitting in a café (Copenhagen Coffee Lab) and I enjoy a decaf oat cappu, writing these lines and being inspired by the people and conversations around me. So many realizations again, so many synchronicities, it’s crazy. An artist’s life isn’t linear, it doesn’t only go in one direction (pun was NOT intended at first 🤭) It’s multilayered, it’s diverse. It’s not the start work at 9 and go home at 5 kind of life. It’s about flowing, being inspired, being kissed by the muse (and STILL showing commitment to the dreams, visions and goals).

It’s so loud here in the café but somehow, I’m so focused, in my zone, in my element. I can ignore and turn off the external noises and be in my bubble. It almost feels like channeling.

I used the last couple of weeks to edit a lot of YouTube videos (all my Palma vlogs are done atm – yay), go inwards, become clearer about my visions and goals. I needed to spend so much time inside (indoors and inside of me). It can be easy to be in the comfortable bubble again, aka living in my home town at my family’s place. And sometimes it’s necessary to slow down) but it shouldn’t become a habit. I know I’m made for MORE in this life. Traveling and adventures are awaiting. Exploring the world. And writing about it.

As I’m writing I realize how much my fingers love to type (I love the keyboard in general – yesterday I was playing piano again after a longer time, and my soul felt so so happy!) I could go on and on and this post was initially planned as an Instagram post but it’s so long now that you can read it here on the blog.

I feel like writing is always a kind of self-therapy for me – whether it’s writing these posts or my (fictional) books.

Book stores – a magical place on Earth

After months of being under construction I visited one of my most favorite book stores here in Cologne again: Thalia/Mayersche. They decorated everything so so beautifully, so many new sections there, I could get lost there. What astonished me the most was that bookstores are really one of the places people are always feeling drawn to. It’s just a place to gather, to be together and inspired. Despite all the AI and social media “revolution” I believe that books won’t die out.
There truly is so much magic between the pages and sometimes I need to pinch me that I’m also writing a book that people are going to read some day. (This is such a motivation and reminder for me to sit down and WRITE!)

Now it’s fall, the leaves are turning yellow and orange. But to be honest, I enjoy this season right now (also because it’s sunny here in Cologne – LOVE that! Sunshine just completely changes my personality). I’m looking so forward to some more trips to South Europe this year but I also truly enjoy witnessing the change of the seasons here. Some weeks from now, we are in Christmas mood. People getting (last minutes) presents and – again- we find ourselves in bookstores. This scenario really reminds me of London (where so many Christmas books and movies are set – maybe another destination for me this year? We’ll see!).

I remember being in London earlier this year when it was still cold outside and I would warm up in a book store (Daunt Books, one of my absolute faves!).

Ah, I’m really getting nostalgic when I think about it right now. Maybe I truly plan a trip there this year.

I also heard so many people speaking British English today. (Maybe I attracted them?)

Synchronicities on a daily basis

So many synchronicities happened today. First of all as I’m sitting here and thinking about writing my books, people started talking about being an author on the table next to me. Then, I was totally in my Canada energy today. I saw a book that was called “Totoro” and I instantly thought about Toronto. (Maybe a friend of mine and I are going to plan a trip there next year, ahh I miss this city!) Then I was at Urban Outfitters and this store ALWAYS reminds me of Toronto because I’ve always been there when I was there and I bought something special there (which also has a meaning in the fictional book I’m writing, ahh!) Then I was walking by a window and there was an old mailbox displayed there and it said “Canada post”. Ahh. Then – only a couple of minutes later  – I was walking into a store and they played the song “If I can’t have you” by Shawn Mendes there and I heard him singing: “I’m in Toronto and I’ve got this view”. Ahh, how amazing is this? The city is calling, I guess.

This was it for now. I need to finish writing this post (and stop people watching – what I looove – it also inspires me as a writer) because I’m meeting my very good friend now. I’m looking so forward to be reunited after our Mallorca adventures together.

If you missed them, here’s the YouTube link, so you can watch it all and travel to Spain with us.

PS: It felt so good to be here in this new location at Copenhagen Coffee Lab. My inspiration is just coming through, the words are flowing. I could sit here for so many more hours.
It felt so right to go here and try this new café instead of going to the ones I regularly go to. I feel like I was a bit stuck (or needed the rest) when I’m in my home town. But the world is my playground, I’m just meant to travel and be inspired the big cities of the world.

I’m excited for what’s to come!
